Winter Warmer Holidays In Lanzarote
The wintry weather in the UK seems to be focusing people’s minds on the need for a break in the sun. As those unable to get to work have time on their hands and the internet provides the perfect way to explore their options. Which explains why many more people now put together their holiday itinerary entirely by themselves.
And whereas ten years ago, there was less to choose from for the independent traveller, the reality now covers a huge range of accommodation types. In particular the holiday villa has grown in popularity, as more and more people enjoy the experience of staying in a home from home abroad.
Like many other tourist destinations, Lanzarote has not been slow to ensure that it can offer holidaymakers this type of accommodation. Demand continues to grow for Lanzarote holiday villas. Whilst apartment complexes are perhaps not so popular as they once were.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, when you consider the difference in facilities between the basic self-catering apartment and most holiday villas in Puerto del Carmen. An apartment might have a two-ring hob, fridge and microwave.
Whilst a villa will probably have an oven, a dishwasher, washing machine and in general, a thoroughly equipped kitchen. Making all the difference to visitors cooking their own meals during a holiday. And the differences don’t end there.
For instance, the average holiday villa in Playa Blanca will have been constructed in the last five years, with modern, spacious and airy interiors. And a south-facing sun terrace designed to catch the rays all day alongside the private swimming pool.
Luxury extras are often included, such as Jacuzzi hot-tubs and air conditioning for the high summer months. With many villas already offering WIFI internet access, or Wii games consoles to help keep children fully amused throughout their stay. The modern conveniences that we all take for granted thus usually come as standard in the vast majority of holiday villas.
And whilst the holiday villas in Costa Teguise may be a few years older, having been built in the 1980’s and 90’s, the conscientious owners tend to add the same facilities that are on offer elsewhere to ensure their properties rank just as well. One firm advantage that villas in Costa Teguise have is their close proximity to the beaches in the resort, as nearly all are within a three to four minute walk from the golden sands.
Lanzarote Holiday Breaks
Explore a different destination next year and discover the unique qualities of Lanzarote. One of the seven Canary Islands – which are owned by Spain but located off the coast of West Africa.
Holidaymakers have been flocking to the Canaries since the late 1960´s but despite their popularity some of the islands remain less touched by tourism than others. Lanzarote enjoys protection by law from high rise buildings so the island has managed to retain much of its original charm and identity.
The interior of the island is dominated by volcanic terrain – created by eruptions around 250 years ago. Which decimated villages and farmland, wiping them out entirely and replacing them with lava fields and now dormant peaks. This area was declared a national park in the 1970s and is now one of the most popular in Spain.
Despite being owned by Spain the islands are in fact many hundreds of miles south of the Iberian Peninsula. Which means that flights to Lanzarote take around twice the time it takes to get to mainland Spain from the UK. With the journey time clocking in at around four hours.
However during the winter months the weather on Lanzarote is a whole world away from mainland Spain. As the island enjoys a semi tropical climate – making it warm enough to visit the beach and swim in the sea even during December.
As a result winter holidays in Lanzarote are very popular – and the island is busy with tourist guests all year round.
There is plenty of choice when it comes to finding places to stay on the island.
Lanzarote villas, apartments and hotels are in abundance in all the three main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. Whilst there are also plenty of accommodation options in the countryside too.
Getting around and exploring the island is very easy – as it only measures 60km by 40km. Which means it’s possible to cover it from end to end in under an hour. Roads are quiet and car hire is cheap so there’s no reason to just sit by the pool. Not least as Lanzarote has so many treasures to view. Such as the Valley of 1000 Palms, Green Caves and the Green Lagoon at El Golfo. As well as the many works of the local artist Cesar Manrique – who created a further seven centres of culture and tourism around the islands before his untimely death in 1992.
